Recent telehealth billing and coding changes

In order to lower potential exposures to patients who are sick or at-risk due to other conditions, as well as protect the frontline healthcare workers, health systems, practices and other organizations providing care have been strongly encouraged to use telehealth where possible.

To encourage this optimal way of treating patients, Medicare and Medicaid restrictions have been lifted. In addition, many payors have waived co-pays and are allowing providers to bill at the same rate as an in-person visit.  Expectations remain high that these changes will remain in effect permanently.
